Establishment Background

The duty to share access to and benefits arising from genetic resources, based on the Nagoy Protocol
The duty to report on accessing and exporting domestic marine bio-resources in accordance with the Act on Securing, Management, and Use of Marine Bio-Resources

Purpose of Establishment Carry out the tasks, etc. related to reporting on accessing and exporting marine bio (genetic) resources
Main Tasks and Services
1 Entrusted with the national responsibilities and the related work in accordance with the Act on Access to and Utilization of Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing
  • Receive reports on access, compliance with the procedures, etc.
  • Promote awareness of the laws on genetic resources and marine bio-resources
  • Determine the related statutes of the countries providing marine bio-resources
  • Take response measures to international cooperation and conventions related to the Nagoya Protocol
  • Consult on related matters such as accessing domestic and foreign marine bio-resources and sharing benefits thereof
